US silver imports jump 16.2%, exports climb 25.7% in 2011
United States Silver imports advanced 16.2% to 6600 tons in 2011, while export of white metal gained 25.7% to 1000 tons for the same year. In contrast, in 2010, country imported 5680 tons of silver and exported 796 tons.
Meanwhile, US silver production for 2011 declined by 8.7% to 1,160 tons valued at $1.27 billion, according to United States Geological Survey (USGS) note published this month. Compared to this figure, the country produced 1270 tons ofSilver in 2010.
US is the seventh largest silver producer in the world with the State of Alaska maintaining the Lead in silver production, followed by Nevada. Alaska also harbours the eighth largest silver mine in the world that roughly accounts for 17% of silver from the U.S.
